Ad 2 Austin – A Rebrand Story: “Bringing it Back”

Since the inception of Ad 2 Austin in 2010, the organization has operated under the name, “AD2ATX.” Even our original bylaws read, “The name of this association shall be Ad 2 Austin (AD2ATX).” Well, after seven years of hearing questions like, “What’s A-D-2-A-T-X?” we figured it was time to make a change.

 

We needed special talent to lead up the efforts, and so we put together a “Rebrand Team,” made up of an Account Manager (yours truly), Art Director (Matthew Adamiak – Y&R), Senior Strategist (Thomas McAdams – T3), and Copywriter (Alexandra Goldstein – SapientRazorfish). While we had the talent to rebrand ourselves, the team came up with the idea to have the local advertising community contribute to the new look. So, we put together creative brief and launched the “Ad2Austin Logo Competition.”

To create incentive, we included some solid prizes. One lucky winner would receive a year-membership to Ad 2 Austin AND a free Interactive Registration to SXSW 2017! The toughest part about this entire process was waiting for the designs to start rolling in.

 

On a very special day we received the winning submission from a fellow Ad 2 Austin member and creative at T3, Emily Mitchell, who designed exactly what we needed.

Emily best describes her logo redesign here:

“Drawing from Austin’s iconic history, this new logo incorporates vintage style as well as modern simplicity. Using a navy and red, our new color palette reflects our relationship to our parent organization, Austin Ad Fed. Within the logo, ‘Austin’ is specifically highlighted in order to differentiate this chapter from others across the nation. In addition, the slant of the logotype encourages movement and insinuates forward momentum in our advertising and design community.” – Emily Mitchell

 

Today, with refreshed logo in hand, the newly-rebranded “Ad 2 Austin” is ready to show the world. As we build out new Brand Guidelines, update our media channels, print signage, launch a new website (and more), we’re excited to help Ad 2 Austin grow stronger than ever before!
